DLK’s Q-Switched Ruby Laser Treatment is an effective and safe therapeutic device for the treatment and removal of professional, amateur, and traumatic tattoos.
The Q-Switched Ruby Laser emits a beam of light at a specific wavelength that is absorbed by colored pigments in the skin, including melanin and tattoo pigment. The laser selectively destroys pigment without damaging the surrounding tissue or outer layer of the skin.
Q-switched Ruby laser Treatment takes place in a medically supervised clinic after a consultation session. At the time of the appointment, the area is cleansed. During the treatment protective goggles are placed over the eyes and if desired, a local anesthetic is given to ensure a comfortable treatment. The laser hand piece glides over the surface of the skin as the laser targets the pigment. The length of treatment time depends on the size and colour of the Tattoo being treated. Many patients tolerate the treatment and report the sensation as feeling similar to numerous rubber band snaps. An anti-biotic ointment is applied following the treatment to keep the area moist and then it is covered with a protective dressing.
On average, professional tattoos require 6-9 treatments and amateur tattoos require 3-5 treatments, all scheduled 4-6 weeks apart. The number of treatments depends on the amount and type of ink used and the depth of the ink in the skin. More stubborn tattoos might require more treatments. Traumatic tattoos (pencil lead, asphalt or dirt embedded in the skin) are usually removed in 1-4 treatments. Blue, black and green ink tattoos are most amenable to treatment while yellow, white or fluorescent colors are more difficult to remove.
Results vary from patient to patient. The tattoos generally become lighter after each treatment. It is difficult to predict the exact response of a given tattoo without actually treating it.
